Report by Hans Kleissl, Michael Rapp

This year’s Goodwood Members’ Meeting took place between April 5 and April 7, 2019 on the legendary 2.4-Mile-long Goodwood Motor Circuit in the county of Sussex, England. The racetrack is situated in a beautiful parkland that surrounds Goodwood House the home of the event organizer, the Duke of Richmond. The Goodwood Members Meeting is a weekend of motorsport that is aimed at recreating and reliving the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original meetings of the British Automobile Racing Clubs in the 1950s and 1960s in Goodwood.

At this year’s Goodwood Members‘ Meeting the racing legend and brand ambassador for the IWC Racing Team, David Coulthard, was able to prove that even after his withdrawal from Formula 1 some 10 years previously, that he was still had the mental strength to win. In a HK-ENGINEERING Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Racing Gullwing he attained first place in the Tony Gaze Trophy race in der GT class for classic cars built between 1954 and 1959.

Coulthard who in the past had won three Grand Prix races beat both the pole positioned Richard Woolmer in an Austin-Healey 100M as well as Andrew Keith-Lucas in a Jaguar XK150. Even though Coulthard lost the lead to Woolmer in the second lap he was able to regain first place extremely quickly by overtaking his opponent.
